IN BED WITH...
Welcome back to the boudoir. You know the drill, it's sultry, it's sexy and just a teeny bit naughty in here. Crawl under the cover with me and discover someting new about Juanita Kees, author of Under Cover of Dark (book 2 in the Tag Raiders series).
Welcome to the boudoir Juanita. What’s the hardest thing about writing a romantic sexual relationship into a story?
What terrifies me most is that my mother will read it. The upside is—everyone who’s read it and knows my husband, think he’s a superhero in the bedroom! My sister-in-law always tells me she can hear my voice when she’s reading my books, so in a bedroom scene that’s a little ‘ewwww’! J
(KB: It’s called – AWKWARD. I get that feeling when my brothers or uncles read my work *squirm*)
I’m happy to take them all the way as long as it’s tasteful, filled with emotion and the reader can feel the love the characters have for one another. In Under Cover of Dark, it was hard to write Lily into a kissing scene, never mind a sex scene. Detective Mark Johnson had to work very hard to earn her trust before they could go all the way. I let my characters choose the right time for them and lengths (pardon the pun) they’ll go to.
(KB: I can see it’s all about my favourite body part with you– the heart J)
Tell us about your first kiss – where did it happen and what was it like?
My first kiss was behind the bicycle shed at the age of six. It was icky and full of boy germs, and we agreed to be friends instead. I’m pleased to say, we are still friends today and I did go on to ignore the boy germs and learn to enjoy a good kiss. Like Mae West said, “I have found men who didn't know how to kiss. I've always found time to teach them.”
(KB: Six? Cute! And Mae had a lot more patience than me. Can’t kiss? Forget it!)
Have you ever had a lover who changed you or taught you something new about yourself, a lover who made a difference in your life?
Yes, but I don’t kiss and tell ;-)
(KB: Now that’s cheating. This is supposed to be a bare all – but then, I see you wore your flannies so perhaps not?)
Leather or lace or? What would be your favourite fantasy undergarment to wear in the boudoir and why?
Both! A little lace with leather is a good thing. It gives a touch of femininity to soften the dominatrix and I’m pretty sure we could find a use for the laces…
(KB: A woman after my own heart. Although leather can get a little – er – sticky)
Who is Juanita Kees?
Juanita graduated from the Australian College QED, Bondi with a diploma in Proofreading, Editing and Publishing, and achieved her dream of becoming a published author in 2012 with the release of her debut romantic suspense, Fly Away Peta. Under the Hood (book 1 of the Tag Raiders series) followed in 2013 as one of the first releases from Harlequin's digital pioneer, Escape Publishing. Juanita works as a freelance editor assisting authors in polishing their work for submission. She escapes the real world to write stories starring spirited heroines who give the hero a run for his money before giving in.
When she’s not writing, editing or proofreading, Juanita is the cleaning fairy and mother to three boys (hubby included, his toys are just a little more expensive). Her not-so-miniature Daschund, Sam is her critique partner and keeps her company while writing.
