In Bed With...Suzi Love

The curtains are drawn, the candles lit and slow saxophone plays in the background. The cushions are plumped and the velvet cover is pulled back to reveal someone under black satin sheets. Snuggle up because today we are in bed with Suzi Love, author of the Scandalous Siblings historical romance series.

Welcome to the boudoir Suzi. Snuggle in and tell us a bit about your writing.

What’s the hardest thing about writing a romantic sexual relationship into a story?

Not wanting to rush it. Learning to take it slowly and let the relationship grow over time and develop at its own pace.

(K: Yes, it can get a bit rushed and heated when writing a sex scene. It's much better to slow it down, for both the characters and the readers)

When it comes to sex scenes in your work, how far are you willing to take your readers into the bedroom (or boardroom, or elevator...) and why?

Some of my stories are erotic historical romance, so everything is on display, though normally a sedate bed scene is the last to happen after some wilder scenes in other places. I started writing about the seamier side of the Regency era and part of that is showing the underworld of London when some areas had a brothel on every corner.

(K: You should check out some of the fascinating things Suzi has unearthed during her research. Real talking points on her blog and Pinterest page)

Tell us about your first kiss – where did it happen and what was it like?

My first kiss was a Boy Scout World Convention. Yeah, I know, not a good example to teens today to say that I was a Girl Guide and he was a very cute Boy Scout and while watching the fireworks, sparks flew between us and it was very sweet….sigh!

(K: Now that has to be the sweetest first kiss story we've had so far - too cute!)

Have you ever had a lover who changed you or taught you something new about yourself, a lover who made a difference in your life?

Despite being a nurse and having seen plenty, when I met my husband I still had no idea of all the naughty words used, mainly by men I must say, to describe sex, and gender parts, and ….well lots of the more wild things that could happen between lovers. Whew! Such an education.

(K: A naive nurse, Suzi? I find that hard to believe, especially looking at your books)

Leather or lace or? What would be your favourite fantasy undergarment to wear in the boudoir and why?

Oh, goodness, I really have to choose both because leather rarely comes in my favourite colour of pink, so I need pink lacy and flirty nightwear, but also the leather corsets that go so well with the whips I use to keep the Aussie historical authors in line. And for our initiation ceremonies for newbies at conference, though those details are hush-hush until August.

(K: Whips??? Initiation ceremony??? That wasn't mentioned in the RWA conference brochure. Better pack my panadol!)

Ha! Great bedside chat ladies ;)

And I obviously should have gone to Boy Scout conventions, not Guide camps :)
