Do you recall how you were told about the ‘birds and bees’? I have a vague memory of a book my mother gave me when I was about six. I must have been asking questions because she was pregnant with my youngest brother at the time. It had paper cut out pictures of a rooster and a hen, 2 rabbits and a very happy mummy and daddy standing naked holding hands, then cuddling under the covers in bed.

On Sunday I attended my first Women of Letters event in Melbourne. For the uninitiated, Women of Letters is a unique literary celebration of Australian women writers and writing. Take five female writers, musicians, politicians or comedians and hand them a topic to write a letter to – for example To my first boss, To my nemesis, To the photo I wish had never been taken.
As an erotic fiction writer, research can lead to some unexpected surprises. One of these arrived last year in the form of a facebook update via my Erotic Fiction Writers of Australia. A member asked what seemed like an innocent question following a discussion with her 20-something son.
