This wonderful short film captures everything that's special about a first kiss. I promise you'll be smiling by the end of it...

What has Barry White got to do with great sex? Tsk! You have to ask! It's all about the deep, sultry, breathy voice people. There's a reason women love him and it's not the glittery gold jacket...

Gemmell’s grasp of poetic language is delicious and it’s what makes her work a ‘weak at the knees’ read for me. I Take You is a love story dripping with eroticism and a romance with a happy ever after ending that is at once believable and satisfying.

Do you remember your first ride on a roller coaster? The anticipation and stomach dropping descent? Being a first time author is just as exhilarating! And terrifying. As the release of my second novel, Being Jade, draws near, I'm reflecting on how my debut, The Yearning, fared, and the picture ain't too shabby. She's been nominated for Best Erotic Romance with the Australian Romance Readers Association (voting open now) and has made it to a few notable Top 10 Reads for 2013.

Like a stage show, much goes on behind the scenes when writing a book. (Panic. Then there's doubt, fear and more panic.) Jennifer Scoullar, my good friend and fellow Little Lonsdale Writers Group member, has tagged me in this fascinating blog chain where writers reveal their behind the scenes processes. Is it all smoke and mirrors?

Romance my way is a little dangerous. Not for me the sweeter traditions of secret babies, friends turned lovers, brooding-wealthy-but-very-damaged boss. I'd rather be ravished than rescued.
Read on to win a $50 Gift card or a digital copy of The Yearning.

It's 'Hasta manana, Baby' for Ramon. The Master of Love is about to go underground for the next few months while I work on a fresh direction for him.

‘Time is too short and good books too many to waste time reading books you don’t enjoy.’ – Andrea Goldsmith.
The way I read has changed since becoming a writer.

Relationships are often strained by disagreements over what's fair in the bedroom - women want quality, men want quantity. Sex isn't an entitlement in a relationship. For men who want more frequent sex the formula is simple: be respectful and become the lover your partner longs for. If you can't be bothered then quit your bitching!

I had my first birds and bees conversation with my nine year old last night, with hilarious results. How did you first find out about sex?

The idea of exchanging letters with a lover is endlessly romantic and I’m regretful it doesn't happen any more.

Being an author isn't always about getting the words down, although that is the most important part. Once the words are down and out in the wild, people like to talk to you about them, particularly if the words in question are a bit controversial.

Apologies for my absence. I've been frantic the last couple of weeks with finishing a rough draft of my second novel and attending the annual Romance Writers of Australia conference in Fremantle Perth. I have returned to the desk after a fortnight feeling somewhat dazed and confused because during my week in the West I fell in love with so much - music, art, words, people - I think I'm suffering in-love-brain-fry.

A lot of people poo-poo erotic romance, and romance in general, as fluffy rubbish, and in some cases they’d be right. However, as a generalisation it’s deeply wrong to make the assumption that all romance and erotic fiction is just about sexy titillation that involves little intelligence to read and less talent to write.

Friday night I was a very fortunate guest of the wonderful people at Simon & Schuster Australia at the Australian Book Industry Awards (ABIA) in the glittering heart of our tartiest capital city, Sydney.

Release Day - it's like a birthday for books. And I've been like a kid before Christmas for the past few days, unable to sleep for sheer excitement at seeing my baby hit the bookshelves. If my blog supported video, right now you'd be looking at a visual of me in my car saying 'Hi, I'm Kate Belle and today is a very exciting day for me because my first book, The Yearning, hits the bookshelves.

The last time I read historical romance I was in my teen's. Trust me, that was a damned long time ago. I had glandular fever at the time and devoured Jane Austin and Georgette Heyer with a gusto saved only for the confined and the restless. My time of historical romance over indulgence had a similar effect on me to that of my first massive drinking session involving Tequila - too much of a good thing can leave one with a hangover that lasts a lifetime.

I recently raised a question to erotic fiction authors on a panel at the Australian Romance Readers Convention in Brisbane. Do you choose to be ‘out’ as an erotic fiction writer and if not, why? The responses were varied and fascinating.

Whenever someone asks my beloved 'So, what does she write?', he invariably responds, 'Smut. Filth.' Then giggles like a stoopid school boy. Sigh. One of the things an out erotic fiction writer (and there are plenty of them still in the closet, believe me) must face are the inevitable 'Wink, wink, nudge, nudge's' ...
